One UI 2.1 on the Galaxy S20 improves Samsung DeX with mouse window snapping, new gestures, and Bixby Routine support

The Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup of devices was recently released after a hot round of rumors and leaks, with the Snapdragon 865/Exynos 990 processor, 5G connectivity support, amazing cameras (and in the case of the S20 Ultra, a mammoth 108MP camera), high refresh rate displays, and much more. They serve as successors to the Galaxy S10 lineup, and worthy ones at that. The S20 series was also the first set of devices to be released with One UI 2.1, which is based on Android 10 and comes with some additional features and improvements over the previously-released One UI 2.0.

Turns out, however, that this software also comes with a few improvements to Samsung DeX. As spotted by @Kuma_Sleepy on Twitter, Samsung has announced on its Korean community forum that the Galaxy S20 comes with some software improvements in One UI to Samsung’s desktop interface. The first new feature is the ability to snap a window to the left or right side by dragging your mouse to the side (a common feature of desktop OSes). This was already possible to do in Samsung DeX via a keyboard combination (OS key + left/right arrow), but now it’s possible to do using your mouse.

The next new feature is the ability to use 3 or 4-finger touch gestures. These gestures can be changed in Settings > Samsung DeX settings > Mouse/Touchpad > Touchpad gestures. And last up, we also have an update to Bixby Routines to trigger actions whenever Samsung DeX starts or ends. You could, for example, create a routine to set your phone to Do Not Disturb mode or turn on Bluetooth when starting Samsung DeX.

One UI 2.1 based on Android 10 debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S20 but it is also starting to roll out to other Samsung smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10. It is unclear, however, whether these new Samsung DeX features are already available on the Galaxy S10/Note 10 through One UI 2.1 or if these features are exclusive to the Galaxy S20’s software.
